I'd say you nailed this interview, Joel, by getting the mayor to reveal his racism:

He paused for a moment, as if scrolling through notes in his head. “Listen, to be honest, in these schools there’s a 56 percent dropout rate–we can’t accept the status quo.” He took one more step down the aisle.

It speaks for itself.

Well done!

Thank you and reposted @ 99GetSmart.com

@Jorge:
I don't think you even read my comments at which you are supposedly replying. Your comments were almost completely irrelevant to anything I wrote.
Incidentally, I do think the rich should pay a lot more in taxes. And I do think that influence from wealthy conservatives have wasted much of the government's wealth on unnecessary wars and pro-business favors.
Nevertheless, in the State of Illinois and the CTA in particular, most union workers start with very limited skills and end up being paid much more than the experienced professionals who often have many more years of experience and education.
So I am not really concerned with the 1%. Those are Orwellian Goldsteins for the Occupieds. I am talking about the 90% of citizens, who are not being paid twice their marketable rate, but work just as hard.
I am not anti-union at all. But should bus drivers, for example, commonly make $100k/yr when the majority of citizens will never have such opportunities?
This problem is so acute in the State of Illinois because of big-money union lobbying efforts, not the will of the people.

The Tea Party is essential to Obama's political calculations.

Without an extreme opposition that Obama can pose before as a relatively sane alternative, his political advantage is diminished.

Without a Tea Party opposition to his campaign promises in the legislature, he would be hard pressed to his explain his failure act in support of the 99%. He needs a plausible excuse, provided by the Tea Party, to avoid enacting legislation objectionable to the 1%.

Truths, as presented by Occupy, confer no political advantage to Obama.

@TTman:

My, my you're upset at the idea the rich should pay more in taxes. Why might that be?

"Big money unions"? This is a joke. What about the rich and powerful in this society? They're invisible in your warped universe where working people are the only enemies. You give the 1% a free pass and direct our attention to ordinary people who's living standards are under attack. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I would rather bus drivers were rich than the likes of parasites like Penny Pritzker. At least bus drivers actually do socially necessary work. What does Pritzker do except watch others--i'm thinking of those awful, evil, greedy unionized hotel workers at Hyatt--make her ever richer.

Your world is totally upside down. The article makes clear what the real issue is: the rich get massive government bailouts and the military gets untold billions to build warships... but meanwhile we're told there is no money for education or transportation infrastructure. It's a joke. No amount of whining and bellyaching about those "big money" evil bus drivers will solve that contradiction.
